When you're
writing a research paper, your instructor may ask you to follow certain guidelines. Some professors may advise you to write in
APA or
MLA format. APA style, is followed when you're writing a research paper on social or natural sciences like psychology, linguistics etc.
MLA style is followed when you are writing a research paper on humanities or liberal arts like literature, language, philosophy etc.
Modern Language Association of America (MLA) style is also used by over 1,100 scholarly and literary journals, newsletters and magazines and by many universities and commercial press. The MLA's guidelines are followed throughout North America and in Brazil, China, India, Japan, Taiwan and other countries around the world. Some rules to be followed while writing a research paper in MLA style are: Pay careful attention to punctuation and type exactly as each example indicates. Double-space throughout. Cross check that there is only one space after punctuation. Alphabetize entries by author. If no author is given, begin with the title.
