- The topic of your paper
- The audience for whom the paper is written.
The audiences of a thesis or term paper are usually people who are familiar with the subject in general. They might not necessarily be knowledgeable about specific topic. To most extent you can choose your audience. But it is better to stick to your decision and avoid changing your audiences.
The first line of your paper often expresses the topic itself. Therefore spend time in writing a powerful first sentence. Also get early to the point. Try to mention your conclusions and the reasons for your conclusion in the beginning itself. Make an outline of the whole paper.
It is best to sketch out the first paragraph before you start writing the paper. It is the hardest section to write.
Avoid long introductory sections. An introductory section should serve as an overview of the paper.
Conclusions should be added if the paper is either long or reports a survey or an experiment.
